Passengers beat trotro mate wotowoto for refusing to reduce transport fares

Passengers Assault Trotro Mate for Refusing to Reduce Transport Fares
A video currently going viral on social media captures a disturbing altercation between a group of angry passengers and a trotro mate, who was physically assaulted for allegedly refusing to adhere to the recently announced 15% transport fare reduction by the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU).
The footage shows a chaotic scene in which visibly agitated passengers confront the mate, accusing him of overcharging and refusing to refund the difference in fare. Despite the GPRTU’s nationwide directive to reduce fares, the mate reportedly insisted on collecting the previous, higher fare.
As tensions escalated, the situation turned violent, with several passengers seen attacking the mate and demanding their change.
In his defence, the mate claimed that he had not received any formal communication from his station or management to implement the new fare adjustment. He maintained that until he is officially instructed to do so, he would continue operating under the existing fare structure.
The incident has sparked widespread debate online, with some users condemning the passengers’ actions as excessive, while others criticise the lack of clear communication and enforcement of fare policies.
