High Spirit: Watch how Chairman Wontumi Arrived at the CID Headquarters

Chairman Wontumi Arrives at CID Headquarters in Style
The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, made a notable entrance at the headquarters of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service in Accra. Dressed in all-white attire, he appeared to be in high spirits as he arrived.
Accompanied by former Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, Chairman Wontumi was honoring an invitation from the state security agency.
A video shared by Kwaku Dawuro, a journalist from Wontumi Media, captured the moment as he was greeted by a group of supporters, including the Ashanti Regional Communications Director of the NPP, Paul Yandoh.
Before entering the building, he blew a kiss to his supporters, showcasing a confident demeanor. His visit comes on the heels of a raid by security operatives at his residence on Friday, May 23, 2025.
In an interview with Wontumi Radio following the raid, Chairman Wontumi revealed that the security officials, identified as being from the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), had attempted to arrest him. He stated that prior to this incident, he had already been invited by the Ghana Police Service to report to their office, which he intended to do on the scheduled date.
“I informed Mr. Offie, a police officer, that I would report on Monday, May 26, 2025. He instructed me to write a receiving note confirming my acceptance of the invitation,” Wontumi recounted in Twi. “However, when I woke up that morning, I found numerous individuals outside my home claiming they had been sent by the BNI boss in Kumasi to take me. I explained that the police had already communicated with me regarding my reporting.”
He continued, “When I contacted the police, they confirmed they had not sent anyone to pick me up and were awaiting my arrival on Monday.”
The exact reasons for the security officials’ visit to Wontumi’s home remain unclear. However, it follows the government’s suspension of the mining license for his company, Akonta Mining, due to allegations of illegal mining activities in the Tano Nimiri Forest Reserve in the Western Region.
Chairman Wontumi has denied these accusations, claiming they are politically motivated, linked to his ambitions for the National Chairmanship position of the NPP.
