In the ongoing Ejisu By-Election in Ghana, the Electoral Commission (EC) has suspended two of its temporary staff members for accepting a ‘white envelope’ from the Member of Parliament (MP) for Kwadaso Constituency, Professor Kingsley Nyarko. The incident was captured in a video that has been circulating on social media.
According to the press release issued by the EC, the decision to suspend the officials was made after the video depicting the misconduct at one of the polling stations came to light. In the video, the Kwadaso MP can be seen approaching the table and placing the envelope on it for the two now-suspended EC officials.
The EC has emphasized its commitment to upholding its core principles of integrity, truth, and transparency. It has taken immediate steps to withdraw the two temporary staff members while investigations into the incident take place.
Content of the Envelope Intended for Lunch Expenses
The EC has concluded its investigation into the controversial video and determined that the content of the envelope was intended for lunch expenses for the officials. According to the findings released in a statement, the man in the video approached the EC officials’ table, inquired about their meal status, and then placed the envelope containing funds for lunch expenses before leaving.

EC’s Plea for Calm and Commitment to Integrity
In response to the incident, the EC has issued a plea for calm and reaffirmed its dedication to upholding fundamental principles of integrity, honesty, and openness. The commission has initiated an investigation into the alleged bribery incident involving the two officials during the Ejisu By-Election.
