Breaking: NDC’s Chief Biney and NPP’s Afia Akoto divorced

NDC’s Chief Biney and NPP’s Afia Akoto divorced

Afia Akoto, the Deputy Communication Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has confirmed that her highly publicized marriage to Chief Hamilton Biney, the former Deputy National Organiser of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has come to an end.

The couple, who belonged to rival political parties in Ghana, tied the knot in 2020 amid the political tensions that often accompany the country’s elections, generating significant attention and discussion.

During a gathering with NPP supporters in the Okaikwei North Constituency, where she intends to run as a parliamentary candidate in the upcoming 2024 general elections, Afia Akoto openly revealed the dissolution of her marriage.

She expressed her frustration, stating that her adversaries had been using her marriage against her until they discovered that it had ended.

She further disclosed that they are now spreading various falsehoods about her, including baseless claims that she plans to dismiss the party’s current constituency executives.

“When I first arrived, they questioned how they could trust someone married to an NDC member, unaware that the marriage had already ended. Once they learned about the dissolution, they began searching for new accusations against me,” she stated in Twi, the Akan dialect.

Despite the constant scrutiny and attempts to tarnish her reputation, Afia Akoto emphasized that she has refrained from retaliating against her opponents, highlighting her commitment to a higher level of integrity in the political arena.
