Mother-of-four, 43, stabbed to death in Manchester knife attack as girl, 17, and man, 64, fight for their lives in hospital.
A Ghanaian teenager has been implicated in a tragic stabbing incident in Manchester, where he allegedly killed his mother, Alberta Obinim, aged 43.
The attack occurred late at night on Barnard Road in the Gorton area, leading to a significant police response and the establishment of forensic tents at the scene.
The police were alerted around 11:20 PM following multiple calls from the public reporting the stabbings. Alongside the mother, a 17-year-old girl and a 64-year-old man were also injured and are currently fighting for their lives in the hospital
Alberta Obinim was a well-known member of the local Ghanaian community and attended the Blessed Baptist Temple church.
“She was a very nice lady,” Mr Abu said. “I knew her very well. We all go to church together.
Neighbours today spoke about horrific scenes they witnessed yesterday evening. One man said he was sitting in his car when he saw the knifeman ‘chase’ a girl down the street before stabbing her.
“I heard the neighbours saying ‘get in, get in’,” said the man, who gave his name as Reece. “There was a guy with a knife chasing a girl. I said ‘leave her alone, it’s not worth it’. She fell and he stabbed her.
“I turned my car towards him but the girl was in the way. He started chasing my car with the knife.”
Another woman said she heard people ‘screaming’ and saw a young man ‘running in and out of a house’.
“They were saying ‘he’s got a knife’,” she said. “It was terrifying. People were staying inside, no one wanted to go out.”
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with friends and neighbors expressing their disbelief and sorrow over the loss of a beloved community member. Tributes have poured in, highlighting her kindness and the impact she had on those around her.
Police have arrested a 22-year-old on suspicion of murder. Detectives say the suspect was ‘known to the victims’.
