Asamoah Gyan showed up to Christian Atsu’s funeral to pay tribute to his close friend and former Black Stars teammate.
Asamoah Gyan, a former Black Stars captain, paid a heartfelt tribute to his former teammate as he returned home today.
The 31-year-old Ghanaian international was one of the nearly 50,000 people who died in the February earthquake in Turkey.
Asamoah showed his deepest sadness in his tribute by stating:
“Christian was one of my favourite players and also one of the guys very close to my heart. I’m not God but the trust Christian had in me was unbelievable. He always tells me “Asa, please try and play every game for us cos I don’t see us winning without you.” Anytime he sees me. he shakes his head and starts laughing. After every goal I score, Christian always walks to me and always says “Asa Nyame shira wo (God bless you). My heart is in pain for loosing a humble, innocent, and unbelievable footballer like Christian. Thank you for everything. Rest in peace Brother.”
