A man who spoke to JoyNews about illegal mining in homes in Odumasi was attacked and severely beaten by a group of miners in the Asante Akyem Central municipality.

Eric Obeng Acheampong, who has multiple wounds on his back, chest, hands, and face, claims he was kidnapped and beaten for nearly four hours by over 30 illegal miners.

In an interview, he stated that the miners accused him of destroying their trade by speaking to JoyNews about their illegal activities in town.

In an earlier interview, Mr. Acheampong discussed the digging of pits in homes in Odumasi, which resulted in the sinking of a household toilet, which killed a young woman about a month ago.
